It is amazing just how resilient the outbound market has been to date, even if the results of the third quarter ONS outbound passenger travel survey showed the first signs of a downturn in outbound travel, primarily linked to the £sterling exchange rate,

With 55 member countries from across the globe priorities and strategies differ but we all learn from each other’s successes, similar challenges and opportunities. While many island nations are recovering from natural disasters they will no doubt be looking to build back with even better products and look at past examples such as Samoa and Grenada. Gibraltar and Tunisia amongst others are looking forward to reinstated airlift coming from the UK in the New Year, affordable accessibility being key to a destination’s success.

We know that the majority of our members will be back at WTM and you can meet over half at ANTOR Meets the Travel Trade, 19 June at the IOD, London. Many destinations can be found at the Destinations Shows or regional roadshows by PATA or CTO. However, there are also many other opportunities throughout the year for you to meet, engage and exchange in person as well as learning through online training programs (see the ANTOR website for member training platform links). Grenada Tourism Authority will be launching the “Silversands Grenada” opening in May, the first new-build independent deluxe property on Grenada’s famous Grand Anse beach for a generation! Agents can log bookings and be rewarded via You can meet Grenada at The Telegraph Travel Show, (February),  RHS Chelsea Flower Show (May),  September Luxury Wedding Show, October Birmingham Dive Show and October Chocolate Show.

2018 has been designated for Barbados as the “Year of Culinary Experiences”; from fine dining to zesty street food prepared in time-tested tradition. On the heels of Barbados’ Luxury Roadshow in 2017, more roadshows will follow throughout 2018. Barbados will continue to carry out a robust schedule of training and webinars which can be arranged with the team. Look out for Barbados at the National Wedding Show London and the inaugural Destination Weddings and Honeymoons Show Birmingham amongst others.

Miami will be launching the completion of the 30-acre Miami World Centre in downtown Miami, the All Aboard Florida line linking downtown Miami to Orlando and new and reimagined Miami Beach Convention Centre. Miami’s main trade events include the Big Travel Trade Event in Belfast on 12-13 June and Greater Miami CVB sales mission, 25 to 29 June.

Canada is planning a series of road shows in June in partnership with provinces, territories and commercial partners (Hotels, airlines, trains etc): 13th Birmingham, 14th Exeter, 18th London and 19th Manchester.  

Samoa is promoting its new national carrier Samoa Airways and its 6 flights a week linking Apia and Auckland and 2 services between Apia and Sydney making twin centre holidays even more accessible. Agents and tour operators wanting to improve their South Pacific knowledge can sign up for a fam trip to Samoa based around STE (The Samoa Tourism Exchange) taking place 2 to 4 May. 

Samoa, will be at the Adventure Travel Conference & Showcase in Olympia on 18-19 January for the first time where adventure specialists can pre-book meetings along with Jordan, who are also exhibiting in the Adventure Travel Show.

Jordan’s Read Sea resort, Aqaba is positioning itself as the Middle East’s leading winter sun destination with the two multi-billion dollar developments: Ayla and Saraya Aqaba, both of which will open new luxury beachside resorts in 2018 and five, five-star hotels (Hyatt, Jumeriah and Starwood), the country’s first 18-hole Championship Golf Course, Water Park and Wake Park and a Hercules Bomber has just been sunk for new diving experiences.

In March Taiwan will be in London (12th) Guernsey (21st) and Jersey (22nd) with PATA and at Destinations Manchester and London.

Latvia celebrates its 100th anniversary and Airbaltic will relaunch their flights from Riga to Aberdeen in the beginning of May.  There  will be a seminar in Latvia about the UK Over 50’s travel market while Latvia’s other main focus will be on the MICE market participating in the Meetings Show, seminars and in a media marketing campaign.

The Visit Denmark Travel Trade Roadshow is scheduled to take place in May, with marketing campaigns to be announced shortly, workshop dates are:  7th Edinburgh, 8th Manchester and 10th London.
